No more…than与not …any more than同义，不可简单地看成 more…than 的否定形式。具体地说，这一结构可能是带有一定感情色彩的否定形式，也可能是一种较为特殊的类比形式。其翻译方法有二：表示比喻关系时，可译为”正如…不，…也不”。

The food on the ship was no better than no any other ship on which Billy had sailed.

这条船上(供应的)食品并不如比利时工作过的其他船上的食品好。

这是一个主从复合句，主句是The food …no better , than on any other ship 是省略了比较对象的比较状语从句，从句no which引导的定语从句修饰先行词ship。本句中no more …than 用于同类否定的比较，可译为”不如……”。
